Goodbye Soupy Sales

I wanted to give a little nod to one of the pioneers of comedy on TV. Soupy Sales passed on today to that great comedy club in the sky. I'm sure he'll have them rolling in the aisles. I was a mere child when his show was a big hit, but it must have made an impression because I remember him all these years later with his infectious smile. Don't forget to laugh today. It's good for your health.

Snake Oil Salesman

You know I didn't think I'd have much to put in this blog, but I guess life is even more absurd than I had at first thought. So here's a video for you. I've heard the song many times I'm sure, but I've never seen this music video.

You Can Call Me Al

I laughed so hard. What could be more absurd than Paul Simon and Chevy Chase doing a duet?

Where is the Off Switch?

You know what is absurd? My sleeping schedule. It's almost 5 AM and here I am still wide awake. I haven't gone to bed  yet. Yesterday I slept until 10:30 after going to bed at 2:30 AM. I just have this restlessness. I want to make things but I feel too tired to really do them justice. But I'm going to force myself to turn off my computer and lay down at least. Any second I am. Really. Okay maybe just one photo first ...or two.
I just finished these two hats. One is knitted and one is crocheted. Do you think her head is full of random thoughts like mine is? She looks kinda like Cher when she met Sony. I got you babe.

Juggling Teddy Bears

Today I realized I've been juggling over 30 years. Wow! So here are some absurd juggling photos I took at the park today. Hope you enjoy them.

Face on a Zeppelin

AHA, I found the cloth zeppelin with a doll face I mentioned in an earlier post. It was one of the things that inspired me to do this blog. It's just after 3:33 in the video embedded here:

You know I paused the video and looked carefully, and I think it's a fish with a human face. LOL.

Life Can Be Colorful If You Know the Right People

I'm totally in love with the red fox and her ears. The Morris Dancers were from Long Beach CA. I'm tired from a busy day and of course the program is in the other room buried in one of my purses, and I can't remember their exact name. They were having so much fun. The event was Pagan Pride LA in the Whittier Narrows Park. Parking was $6 but admission was free w/ the donation of canned goods for the food bank. The weather was perfect. We were going to vend at this event but our plans never quite gelled. Maybe next year.

I Remembered!

I like to think of our brains like a computer that can solve questions put to it while we sleep. Such was the case last night. Like I said in my last post, I couldn't remember where I'd heard the phrase "Theater of the Absurd" recently. But when I woke up I remembered! It was on a show about Czechslovakia by Rick Steves.  He was talking about the theater there and they watched a show about the theater of the absurd where a modern dancer in a white unitard had all these strange white cones attached to her costume that bobbled around as she danced. Definitely absurd.

First Post and What's Up With This?

A random series of events clicked for me and suddenly Theodora's Theater of the Absurd was born. A while back I was doing research for a name I could use while doing Steampunk events, and I chose the name Theodora. Then I decided to use the name as a vampire character for Vampire Wars. Then just a day or two ago, I heard the term 'theater of the absurd' somewhere. Now I can't remember where I heard it but I started thinking about my love for the absurd. And the list began to grow. I have to add things like Yellow Submarine and the Blue Meanies, this odd doll I saw on an Etsy video where it was like a zeppelin but had the face of a smiling girl, A book of surrealistic circus illustrations, the current revival of circus arts, my love of juggling, and being a mime in the past. And seeing the Salvador Dali exhibit at LACMA with my daughter.

In fact I would love to put on white face, take my hoop to a hoop meeting in a public park and spend the day hooping and never say a word to anyone. That's just the kind of absurdity I'm talking about. I don't fit in with other hoopers anyway, so why not do it my own way?
